Fried computers and ketchup

So, crazy thing happened this weekend, our computer fried.  Our little wal-mart special laptop lasted 3.5 years, and then just decided to stop working all together.  It appears that the motherboard itself is pretty much fried, which is not exactly an easy thing to fix.  So we went shopping for a new computer and after much comparison of prices, quality, and value, we've decided to get an imac.  it's an all in one computer, so it's like having a 20" flat screen tv on your desk with a keyboard and mouse plugged into it.  So far it's just way more stuff than i know what to do with and functions i don't know how to use.  Apparently the new operating system on our mac has 300+ new features than the last version I'd used before.  wow.  It should make dvd making a whole lot easier (it took forever to make a one hour christmas dvd on our laptop!)  Our friends (mark and jim) also persuaded us to get a free program for 'calling' each other.  It's called Skype.  It's like the other IM programs so you can chat with people online and see when they're online, and you can call them and talk through the computer's mic and speakers, or do video chats if you have a webcam (which we do now).  All of that stuff is free, and then if you want, you can pay $0.02 a minute to call anywhere in the world (which might be nice if we want to call brazil for instance).  Anywho, the nice thing about it also is that it works for macs and pcs.  We've already tried it a couple times.  The big trick now is going to be to get everything off of the other hard drive and onto the new computer, and then spend the next year paying it off....TMS

Hurray for macs!!! We LOVE our G5 and we both want to get an imac. You will love it! Good luck transfering the data.

a quick update on the data transfer: I found a hard drive enclosure for $6, so we'll make the old hard drive an external drive, and then after the data transfer, we'll make it our "time machine" backup drive (until we get more than 40G of stuff!)TMS
